NAVAL ROTC ALUMNI GROUP

"Best in the West...and the Rest"

SAVE OUR PAST

The project to SAVE OUR PAST was begun in 2012 by Stan Smith USMC (1972).  His galvanizing aim was to create a "rally point" for as many OSU NROTC midshipmen as he could locate and contact.  Stan had no real "vision" at the time, more just an inner call to begin.

It was pretty much a "build it and they will come" series of prods and tugs that finally lit the match.  Stan started getting in touch with his fellow midshipmen who then reached out to others who then reached out to others and...  Almost ten years later, here we are.

Naval ROTC at Oregon State has a past that began in Fall Term 1946, graduated its inaugural class (of 17) in June 1950, and yet has no real history of the 70 classes (and 2,500 midshipmen) since then.  By "no real history," we mean no continuous record or archive.

Our overriding goal as the Alumni Group is to capture that history and make it accessible via this website, our newsletters, the stories you send us, videos we can dig up, and other resources you send or we're able to find.  The project is daunting.  How sweet it is!
